### 1.1 Location and borders
Sweden is situated on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It is bordered by Norway to the west and north, Finland to the northeast, and is connected to Denmark in the southwest via the Öresund Bridge. The country's extensive coastline stretches along the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia. Its total land area is approximately 450,295 square kilometers, making it the largest Nordic country and the fifth largest in Europe.

### 1.2 Climate
Sweden’s climate varies significantly from north to south. The southern and central regions experience a temperate oceanic climate (Köppen Cfb) with mild winters and cool summers, influenced by the Gulf Stream. Northern Sweden has a subarctic climate (Köppen Dfc) with long, cold winters and short, mild summers. Snow cover lasts several months in the north, while the south has more moderate conditions. The country also experiences marked seasonal variation in daylight, from polar nights in the far north to midnight sun.
