Minecraft is a sandbox video game developed by Mojang Studios, originally created by Markus "Notch" Persson and released in 2011. The game allows players to build and explore a procedurally generated 3D world made entirely of blocks, emphasizing creativity, survival, and multiplayer interaction. It has become one of the best-selling games of all time, with a vast cultural impact spanning education, online communities, and transmedia adaptations. ## 1 Gameplay ### 1.1 Core mechanics #### 1.1.1 Block breaking and placing The fundamental interaction in Minecraft involves breaking and placing blocks. Players use a cursor to target blocks, which can be mined by holding the attack button. Different blocks require specific tools (e.g., pickaxes for stone) to break efficiently. Placing blocks is done by selecting a block from the inventory and using the place button on an adjacent surface. This mechanic allows for the construction of nearly any structure. #### 1.1.2 Health and hunger Players have a health bar and a hunger bar. Health decreases from damage (e.g., falls, mob attacks, drowning) and can be restored by eating food. Hunger depletes over time and from certain actions (e.g., sprinting, healing). Food sources include animals, crops, and fishing. #### 1.1.3 Inventory and crafting The inventory holds up to 36 item slots plus armor, offhand, and a crafting grid. Crafting is performed by arranging materials in a 2×2 or 3×3 grid. Players learn recipes through experimentation or in-game guides. Items can be smelted in furnaces, and advanced crafting uses a crafting table. ### 1.2 Game modes #### 1.2.1 Survival mode In Survival mode, players must gather resources, manage health and hunger, and defend against hostile mobs. They can craft tools, build shelters, and explore. The goal is to survive and optionally defeat the Ender Dragon. ##### 1.2.1.1 Difficulty levels Survival mode offers four di
